What is The LAT?

The LAT is a service-rifle, match-grade, 3-position forced reset trigger for the AR-15 — a refinement of the Triggered Company Disruptor. It carries a greatly improved pull in standard semi-automatic mode, and a variable-rate forced reset in its third position. The maker calls that third mode ARSE (Assisted Reset Semi Enhanced): pull the trigger tightly and the forced reset breaks at a slightly reduced weight, or pull it gingerly and let the mechanism run at its normal reset weight. Like the Disruptor, it is a self-contained drop-in cassette — no gunsmithing, fitting, or permanent modification required.

Why the name LAT

The LAT is named for Larry Alan Thorne — born Lauri Alén Törni — who fought as a Finnish ski infantry officer against Soviet invasion in the Winter War and Continuation War, escaped to the United States after Finland’s capitulation, and became a U.S. Army Special Forces officer. Major Thorne was killed in action serving as a Green Beret in Vietnam in 1965; his remains were not recovered and identified until 2003, and he now rests in Arlington National Cemetery. He fought for three governments against a common enemy and was nominated for both the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross.

The LAT ships with a standard right-hand selector, or an ambidextrous selector with levers on both sides of the receiver so the safety can be run from either side. The trigger cassette, pull characteristics, and installation are identical between the two — only the selector differs.

About the H3 heavy buffer

Most standard carbines ship with a buffer of roughly 3 oz. That light a buffer leads to erratic cycling on a forced reset trigger. The H3 buffer weighs approximately 5.4 oz and uses a heavier three-weight design to increase dwell time, keep the carrier fully seated before the next reset, and smooth out the recoil impulse during rapid fire. Also sold separately if you already have a LAT and just need to add one.

About the M16-profile bolt carrier group

An M16-profile BCG is required for the LAT to run correctly, not just recommended. The M16-profile BCG provides the sear-trip geometry and added reciprocating mass that forced reset systems rely on. The black nitride finish is harder than chrome, reducing friction and making cleanup easy. Also sold separately if you already have a LAT and just need to add one.

• Safe — standard safe position.
• Semi-Automatic — a lighter, cleaner semi-auto pull than the standard Disruptor.
• ARSE (Assisted Reset Semi Enhanced) — the forced reset mode, with a variable rate of fire: pull the trigger tightly for a slightly reduced-weight forced reset break, or pull it gingerly and let the mechanism run at its normal reset weight.

Frequently asked questions

How is the LAT different from the Disruptor?

The LAT is a refinement of the Disruptor platform: a noticeably improved pull in standard semi-automatic mode, and a variable-rate third mode (ARSE) that lets the shooter influence reset weight by how the trigger is pulled. Installation, the drop-in cassette design, and buffer/BCG requirements are the same as the Disruptor.

Do I need a gunsmith to install it?

No. Like the Disruptor, the LAT is a self-contained drop-in cassette for mil-spec AR-15 lowers. No fitting, filing, or permanent modification is required.

What buffer do I need?

A minimum H2 buffer is required, and an H3 (approximately 5.4 oz) is recommended, for carbine gas systems and 16-inch or shorter barrels. A standard rifle buffer is appropriate for 20-inch A2 stocks.

Do I need a full-auto bolt carrier group?

Yes. An M16-profile carrier is required, for the same sear-trip geometry and timing reasons as the Disruptor.
